Respondify and analytics

I wanted to write this article about our newest app Respondify, because some users were in need for further information.

First of all, yes, Respondify accepts HTML templates and liquid tags! Just paste your html code in the template “email body” box and you are done.

Second, don’t forget to tag your URLs. If you want to track Respondify performance, you need to tag every URL your customers could click on.

I use Google Analytics to track clicks, and if you are unsure how to tag them, use this tool with following parameters:

  • Campaign source: Respondify
  • Campaign medium: email
  • Campaign name: template#1 (a name to identify the template you want to track clicks from).

See a sample Url for reorder template:

http://www.yourstore.com/?utm_source=respondify&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=reorder

After some time, you’ll see the results in your Google Analytics dashboard:

For this example, I’ve used 3 templates:

Feedback: this email is sent after 5 days of customer receiving the goods from our store. We ask them if all went as expected or if they have  any suggestions.

Reorder: this store sells products that need to be purchased periodically, so our customers’ loyalty is very valuable. After 30 days of their last order, we remind them it’s time to purchase more food for their pet as they might run out soon. This helps with customer retention a lot!

Paymentpending1: Our Shopify Store accepts wire transfer payments, so it is useful to remind our customers to complete the payment every x days. It’s very hard to track the profitability of this, but after the payment is done, Respondify will let you now and it will stop sending emails to the customer.

Results: Respondify pays itself in less than a month with very few setup efforts. (the rest is 100% autopilot!) I’ve used the data of May (25 days), where Respondify sent:

  • Feedback: 842 emails which generated: 369 euro in revenue in less than 25 days.
  • Reorder: 288 emails which generated: 327 euro in revenue in less than 25 days-
  • Paymentpentding1: 27 emails (sorry, I didn’t have time to check how many wire transfer orders were eventually fulfilled, will do soon)

A surprising hit about Respondify is we thought we would get orders from templates like: reorder and we wouldn’t get any order from templates like Feedback. Well, see the figures above and you’ll realize of the magic.

Hey, everything exposed in this article/post is assuming you have Google Adwords Conversion Tracking installed. If you don’t, head over here to learn how to.
